HEALTHY RECIPES FOR YOUR EYES

Let’s face it, as much as we talk about healthy living, some of us do not always practice what we preach. Recently a patient of mine complained that most doctors prefer to prescribe medication and tend to forget or neglect natural recipes. He had a point. This has inspired me to share a few natural recipes that are good for your eyes and your body. Today we will discuss how to make a spinach –banana shake.

Spinach is well known for its levels of beta carotene, carotenoids [anti-oxidants], Folic acid and other minerals such as iron.

Yogurt is a good source of calcium as well as the B vitamins which includes vitamin B12. Bananas are a great source of potassium and other minerals including zinc.

The nutrients in spinach are purported to enhance visual adaptation to darkness and increase resistance to glare. Spinach is good for everybody and especially for people who have iron deficiency [anemia].

This shake is also very good for children, in pregnancy and also when breastfeeding.

Ingredients: This is for four servings…

  • 100 g raw spinach
  • 1 ripe Banana (optional)
  • low- fat yogurt
  • 1 tablespoon of honey
  • 1/2 liter of water
  • 1 lime

Preparation:

Step One: Carefully wash and chop the spinach into small pieces.

Step Two: Using an electric blender, put the spinach and the banana into the blender, add a little water and blend.

Step Three: Add the remaining water, honey and yogurt. Blend some more until the mixture is uniform.

Step Four: Put the mixture in the refrigerator to chill.

Step Five: When ready to serve, add a few drops of lime juice to each glass.

Drink a spinach-banana shake every day and you will be amazed at the increase in energy that you attain, not to mention what it will do for your body and your eyes.

Don’t forget to serve cold.
